It will be your task to free the local neighborhood of Miller’s Square from the grip of a mythic-powered mafia organisation. During the course of this mini-arc, you will take on the role of one of five anti-heroes, all of which have legendary abilities and are members of the All-Seeing Eye Investigations agency. So, what’s in this mysterious starter box I hear you ask? Well, with the Players Guide and MC Toolkit already available, the Starter Box acts as a learn-as-you play introduction into the world and rules of City of Mist. Modern-day legends exploit this to run secret lives and insidious organizations behind the veil of the Mist. It makes armor look like a flak vest and fire breathing like a cheap party trick or a gas leak explosion, so no-one ever knows about the legendary.
The mystical veil of the Mist hides your miraculous powers from other, sleepwalking residents of the City. Inspired by the film noir and detective comic book genres, the game focuses on your crew’s search for answers in a city that seems to enshroud everything in false appearances as well as on the struggle between your character’s normal life and the legend growing inside them. I am happy to say that when the City Of Mist campaign kicks off I'll be playing the most obvious role, or "mythos", I'd ever play for a campaign like this: Sweeney Todd, as outlined in the melodrama by Christopher Bond and as made famous most recently by the movie adaptation by Tim Burton. When my prospective Master of Ceremonies (their name for a Game Master) approached me to play this, I was already the DM for our D&D campaign, Dastarque (there are a couple of articles here that link back to what I'm doing with that campaign, and I advise people to click here to look at them!). Regardless of its inspiration, City Of Mist deals with a handful of these myths and legends contending with both their roles in their stories and the humdrum of everyday living. It's rather like The Matrix's namesake meets Once Upon A Time, perhaps.

However, once I dug into the mechanics and general lore of the game I found something else entirely.Ĭity Of Mist is all about a world inhabited by legendary figures – think King Arthur or the biblical Job, or even Little Red Riding Hood – who have been affected by an arcane force of nature of sorts, called The Mist, that makes them live a more mundane life than this. Beat the superpowered streets of neo-noir RPG City of Mist on the cheap with latest Bundle of Holding. with special compatibility such as A1200 Reloaded / Raspberry Pi / MiST. This is a story about solving a murder, theft, or other crime befitting that genre. Another one of my most eagerly awaited games and a Kickstarter and Steam. So, at first City Of Mist definitely hits me with the classic noir-mystery tropes.
